Dehradun, 23 Jul: The Uttarakhand Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken serious cognizance of an incident of cruelty against a child at the Centurion Defence Academy coaching institute in Dehradun.
Additionally, the Commission has strongly noted the irregularities and grave shortcomings in the educational system at such coaching institutions.
Several complaints have been received in the past against similar institutes, including arbitrary fee collection, overcrowded facilities, unhygienic living conditions for children, and neglect of formal school education. The Commission has previously expressed concern and issued directives on such matters.
In this particular case, the Commission has summoned the owners and management of the institution.

The Chairperson of the Commission, Dr Geeta Khanna, stated that it is extremely unfortunate that school education is being neglected in favour of coaching centers, which is detrimental to children’s holistic development, mental health, and life skills.
The Commission strongly believes that mandatory guidelines must be framed for coaching institutions, especially during school days. It is essential to ensure students’ regular attendance in schools. Furthermore, there is a pressing need for a clear and enforceable regulatory framework for children residing in hostels—particularly those coming from other states.
