CM announces 2027 Kumbh Snan dates during meeting with sages in Haridwar

Haridwar, 28 Nov: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today announced the dates for the 2027 Kumbh Shahi Snans (auspicious dates for bathing in Ganga during the Kumbh) at a historic meeting by the Ganga River with Acharyas and sages from all 13 major Akhadas of Haridwar. This meeting was the first occasion that such a high-level meeting regarding organisation of the 2027 Kumbh Mela and has been held on the banks of the Ganga.

On this occasion, Dhami declared the key bathing dates for the 2027 Kumbh. He announced that Makar Sankranti Snan will be held on 14 January, 2027, Mauni Amavasya Snan on 6 February, Vasant Panchami Snan on 11 February, Magh Purnima Snan on 20 February, Maha Shivaratri (Amrit Snan) on 6 March, Phalgun Amavasya (Amrit Snan) on 8 March, Nav Samvatsar Snan (New Year) on 7 April, Mesh Sankranti (Amrit Snan) on 14 April, Ram Navami on 15 April, and Chaitra Purnima on 20 April.

During the meeting, the CM also sought suggestions from the Acharyas of the Akhadas to ensure the Kumbh is organised successfully. He emphasised that the traditions, needs, and facilities required by the sages would be prioritised in all decisions related to the event. Dhami also expressed gratitude for the blessings and guidance given by the sages today and he claimed that completing the elaborate preparations without their inspiration and advice would be unimaginable. He also stated the objective is to make the preparations for Kumbh 2027 more comprehensive, systematic, and aligned with the expectations of the Sant Samaj through collective inputs.

Dhami noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged for Devbhoomi Uttarakhand to be established as the Spiritual Capital of the World. Following this vision, the State Government is working with full dedication to make the 2027 Kumbh Mela grand, divine, and historic, he claimed. Recalling that the 2021 Kumbh was organised on a limited scale due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its Shahi Snans were symbolic, the CM asserted that Kumbh 2027 in Haridwar will hold special significance, with devotees expected to attend in numbers far exceeding those in 2010 and 2021. The government has already commenced wide-ranging preparations to ensure the event is secure and well-managed, coordinating fully with State and Central security agencies to guarantee the safety of attendees, saints, and sadhus.

Dhami assured that all the related departments including Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Provincial Armed Constabulary, Health, and Fire Departments will implement necessary safety protocols. Given past incidents during Kumbh Melas, specific focus has been placed on crowd control, traffic management, and emergency response mechanisms. Officers with prior experience in organising previous Kumbh Melas will also be mobilised for seamless execution. Dedicated teams will oversee cleanliness in the city and along the river ghats, emphasising waste management, drainage, and environmental protection.

The Acharyas and the sages from various Akhadas welcomed the CM’s efforts towards preserving culture in the state and pledged their full support for the organisation of a grand and sacred Kumbh. On this occasion, the CM also shared a meal with the Acharyas and saints of the Akhadas.
