Dehradun, 28 Sep: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for the bereaved family of Ankita Bhandari, who was murdered by Pulkit Arya and his associates. The Chief Minister has directed the officials to ensure early payment of the compensation. This information was shared by CM Dhami on social media.

He further stated that the state government stood firmly with Ankita’s family and would help them in every possible way. SIT investigation is underway in the case and it would be completed at the earliest in a completely impartial manner.

Dhami further stated that the government had sought setting up of a fast-track court to hear the matter at the earliest to ensure speedy justice to the victim. He asserted that such an incident was unacceptable in Uttarakhand. The government has urged the court to grant harshest punishment to the guilty. The SIT is looking into all aspects and is in the process of gathering evidence and preparing a report. All the evidence would be placed before the court to strengthen the case.

Following the directions issued by the CM, Additional Secretary to CM, Navneet Pandey today wrote a letter to Virendra Singh Bhandari, father of Ankita Bhandari, informing him about the government decision to grant compensation of Rs 25 lakhs to the bereaved family from the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Fund and urged him to accept the compensation. The copy of this letter has also been marked to the DM, Pauri, for further necessary action.

Meanwhile, the remand advocate, who applied for bail of the accused in the Ankita murder case, has now refused to fight the case on behalf of the accused. Advocate Jitendra Rawat had filed a bail application in the court of Kotdwar Judicial Magistrate, Class One, Bhavna Pandey. However, he has now withdrawn the application in view of the sensitive nature of the case and also stated that no lawyer from Kotdwar or outside would be allowed to fight the case.
