Dehradun, 5 Mar: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the approval given by the Union Cabinet for the construction of ropeways from Sonprayag to Kedarnath and from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib. Dhami stated that the Prime Minister has given two significant gifts to the state before his visit to Uttarakhand. He asserted that the development of these ropeways will greatly facilitate the visit of devotees to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib.

It may be recalled that the CM had urged PM Modi during his visits to Delhi for approval of construction of these ropeways with Central funds. Dhami claimed the Prime Minister has a special attachment to ‘Devbhoomi’ Uttarakhand. He added that under Modi’s guidance, Uttarakhand is joining the category of leading states in the country in various fields. The state is receiving substantial support from the Union Government under the Prime Minister’s leadership. The reconstruction of Kedarnath and the master plan for Badrinath are progressing rapidly. He noted that the number of devotees participating in the winter pilgrimage in the state is expected to increase significantly after the ropeways are constructed.

It may be recalled that earlier, today, the Union Cabinet approved the ropeway from Sonprayag to Kedarnath (12.9 km) in Uttarakhand under the Parvatmala Project, part of the National Ropeway Development Programme. Additionally, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also approved the construction of a 12.4 km long ropeway project from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib. The project will be developed on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) mode with a total capital cost of Rs 2,730.13 crore.
