DEHRADUN, 29 Jan: Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has expressed grief at the demise of former Defence Minister and senior politician George Fernandes. While praying for the peace of the departed soul, he expressed his sympathy towards the bereaved family.
In his condolence message, the Chief Minister recalled that the late George Fernandes was a grassroots leader, who in the capacity of the Union Defence Minister discharged his duties effectively. He said that Fernandes had a specific identity as a firebrand labour leader. He always raised his voice for the rights and interests of labourers and working people. The Chief Minister said that a chapter of socialist thinking has ended with the demise of George Fernandes. It was an irreparable loss for the country.
