Dehradun, 6 Sep: Aasraa Trust’s new Shelter Home for 200 girls on Rajpur Road was inaugurated, here, today.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami did the honours along with Andrea Pernkopf, Managing Director, ‘help alliance’.
CM Dhami emphasised that the lives of those who serve others prove to be the most fulfilling. He expressed the hope that the resident girls would go on to receive good education. He highlighted the important elements of the New Education Policy in this context.
Also present on the occasion were MLA-Rajpur Khajan Das; Director General, Department of School Education, Banshidhar Tiwari; Henning Neuhaus, Communication, help alliance; and Sangeeta Sharma, the General Manager, Sales, India, at Lufthansa Group help alliance, the aid organisation of the Lufthansa Group.
In addition, Vikas Varma, Chief Operating Officer, Mastercard, South Asia, was also present at the event.
In order to prevent them from being exposed to the many dangers on the streets without protection, an environmentally friendly dormitory for 200 girls has now been built instead of the earlier dilapidated makeshift shelter. In the safe environment and new ‘home’ the girls will now learn to regain confidence and be physically strengthened by food and medical care.
“The inauguration of the new Girls’ Shelter is another milestone for the Aasraa Trust and its commitment to underprivileged girls. I am proud that the Lufthansa Group and our partner, Mastercard, can contribute in this way to a better future for India’s youth. I wish them all the best for their future,” said George Ettiyil, Senior Director, South Asia Lufthansa Group.
