Uttarkashi, 27 Aug: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today conducted an extensive visit to the disaster-affected region of Syana Chatti in Badkot Tehsil. He also inspected the temporary lake formed due to obstruction in the flow of the Yamuna River.

He also reviewed the ongoing efforts to clear the blockages. During his visit, he also interacted with the affected residents, heard their grievances, and assured them all possible assistance from the government.

It may be recalled that a temporary lake has emerged near Syana Chatti following the accumulation of debris from the local streams and the rivulet, which have impeded the natural flow of the Yamuna River. Taking stock of the situation, the CM instructed the officials to expedite the removal of silt from the riverbed and to widen the mouth of the lake so as to facilitate faster drainage of water. Dhami further directed District Magistrate, Uttarkashi, Prashant Arya to undertake an immediate assessment of the losses incurred by local residents due to waterlogging and debris, and to submit a comprehensive report to the government at the earliest. In view of the disruption in transportation, he also issued instructions for the procurement of potato crops at a fair price to safeguard the interests of local farmers.

The CM later also went on to inspect the damaged Kuprada-Kushala bridge and directed that a suitable construction agency be appointed without delay to commence reconstruction work. He instructed the officials to make arrangements for an alternative pedestrian route until the bridge is restored to operational status. Emphasising the need to resume vehicular movement at the earliest, he stated that traffic disrupted due to landslides must be restored promptly and that the Yamunotri Marg should be reopened for the yatra at the earliest.

Expressing solidarity with those affected, Dhami asserted that the government stands firmly with every impacted family during this time of crisis and will extend all necessary support once the extent of damage is duly assessed.

Also present on the occasion were Purola MLA Durgeshwar Lal, Yamunotri MLA Sanjay Dobhal, District BJP President Nagendra Chauhan, District Panchayat President Ramesh Chauhan, State Media In-charge Manveer Chauhan, Garhwal Coordinator Kishore Bhatt, District Magistrate Prashant Arya, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarita Dobhal, Commandant, SDRF, Arpan Yaduvanshi, ADM Mukta Mishra, SDM Brijesh Tiwari, and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) Devendra Singh Negi and Janak Singh Panwar.
