Dehradun, 1 Mar: By declaring Gairsain as the summer capital, the BJP might have scored a political point but, Congress is determined to let this issue remain a political issue. Today in Gairsain, many Congress MLAs led by Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislative Party and former speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal demanded that Gairsain be made the permanent capital.
It may be recalled that Kunjwal has always been very vocal on the issue and has always demanded that Gairsain be made permanent capital of Uttarakhand. It is another matter though when his political Guru Harish Rawat was the Chief Minister, he forgot to raise this issue strongly enough! Today he said that there was no benefit of making Gairsain the summer capital of Uttarakhand. The BJP Government had declared last year on 4 March that Gairsain had been made the summer capital but in reality never ran the government from Gairsain. The CM and the ministers hardly stayed in Gairsain and neither did the senior government officials visited the summer capital. At least the government ought to be run from Gairsain for six months every year, he demanded. Karan Mahra, deputy leader of the Congress Legislative Party, claimed that the government was merely indulging in rhetoric over Gairsain. He further claimed that the government had failed in all respects and added that Congress would consider making Gairsain the permanent capital once it returned to power.
