Bageshwar, 17 Aug: Congress candidate Basant Kumar today filed his nomination for the Assembly by-election to be held due to the demise of incumbent MLA Chandan Ramdas. Basant Kumar was accompanied by the Leader of the Opposition, Yashpal Arya, and PCC Chief Karan Mahara.
Later, speaking to the media, Arya and Mahara claimed that the Congress would win the bypoll very comfortably as the people had become tired of the corruption, inflation and anti-people and anti-women policies of the BJP Government in the state. Mahara and Arya said that BJP has been winning in Bageshwar for the past 20 years but still Bageshwar lacks basic amenities. This time, the people would teach the BJP a tough lesson.
Apart from Kumar, SP and UKD candidates, as well as one independent candidate also filed their nominations today, which was the last date for filing of nominations.
Polling is due to be held on 5 September, while the results are expected on 8 September.
