Dehradun, 17 Aug: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) hoisted the tricolour on the occasion of Independence Day at Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday. He also extended best wishes to the people of the country and the state on the occasion of 77th Independence Day.
Paying tribute to the great freedom fighters and martyrs, the Governor said that the country got its freedom on the strength of their sacrifice, bravery and struggle. Saluting the brave soldiers posted on the border, he said that it is because of them that the borders of the country are safe today.
The Governor said that India has faced all the challenges strongly in these 76 years. India has become the fifth largest economy in the world and will soon become the third largest. India has made rapid progress in the field of infrastructure, manufacturing and supply chain, and defence manufacturing. He said that India successfully launched Mission Chandrayaan 3 which shows its commitment in the field of space. In Amritkal, the people have to set their goals and move towards them with their full potential.
The Governor said that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is continuously making rapid progress, be it in the field of smooth road connectivity, mega rail projects, air and ropeway connectivity. Along with the successful operation of the Char Dham and Kanwad Yatras, continuous work is going on to make these more smooth and convenient in future. A grand military shrine is being constructed to keep the memory of the brave soldiers alive forever. The work of encouraging the youth for self-employment is also going on in Uttarakhand through various employment schemes.
The Governor said that, today, every Indian should take a pledge to recognise one’s self-worth by renouncing the mentality of slavery. He said that on this auspicious occasion, one has to take a pledge to root out corruption, in which the contribution of every Indian will be crucial. To fulfil the resolution of the developed nation and Vishwaguru India by the year 2047, every citizen has to understand the role and responsibilities.
The Governor added that the Prime Minister has also described the third decade of the 21st century as the decade of Uttarakhand, in which the role of every citizen is going to be important. He said that there is a lot of potential in the coming days in the field of new technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), space, cyber, quantum sectors to achieve this.
On this occasion, the Governor also released the quarterly magazine ‘Nanda’ published by the Raj Bhawan. The combined issue of Nanda Patrika (month January to June, 2023) published from Raj Bhawan under the inspiration and patronage of the Governor focuses on the Manaskhand Temple Mala. On this occasion, Secretary to the Governor Ravinath Raman, Legal Advisor Amit Kumar Sirohi, Additional Secretary Swati S Bhadoria, Finance Controller Dr Trupti Srivastava, ADC Amit Srivastava, Major Tarun Kumar, Senior Doctors Dr Mahavir Singh and Dr AK Singh along with the officers and employees posted in the Raj Bhawan were also present.
