Dehradun, 18 Sep: The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress staged a protest today against the alleged “objectionable and threatening statements” made against senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Congress workers gathered in large numbers at Astley Hall Chowk opposite the Congress Bhawan here, today, where they burnt an effigy of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
During the protest, former state president of Congress Ganesh Godiyal claimed that to save their falling reputation, some leaders in BJP are making baseless allegations against top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Godiyal said that some BJP leaders are earning their bread and butter by constantly criticising Rahul Gandhi. However, Rahul Gandhi will also be happy if some people can ensure their livelihood in his name and that some can hit headlines and be in the news for making baseless allegations against him. They can carry on doing so as Rahul Gandhi does not have any objection to this.
The workers of Mahanagar Congress held a protest outside the Astley Hall Chowk against the controversial statements and threats against Rahul Gandhi. Speaking on this occasion, Dehradun Mahanagar Congress President Jaswinder Gogi said that it has become a common thing for BJP leaders to issue such insulting and baseless statements against Rahul Gandhi at the behest of their top leadership.
The Congress workers protesting against the ruling party reminded media persons present there that Union Minister Ravneet Bittu and a minister from Uttar Pradesh had recently called the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi an enemy of the country and a terrorist in the Lok Sabha. Now the BJP and its allies have gone a step further and are making violent statements against Rahul Gandhi. In Maharashtra, Shiv Sena’s rebel MLA and BJP ally Sanjay Gaikwad has exposed his evil mentality by making threatening statements against Rahul Gandhi. The Congress workers claimed that they will never let the plans of the BJP leadership succeed.
