DEHRADUN, 9 May: BJP state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan has accused Congress of being rattled and aggressive after the truth of the Champawat case has come to light. Addressing reporters at the party office here on Saturday, Chauhan asserted that Congress had attempted to script a false narrative of misconduct to target BJP, but its agenda collapsed once the facts emerged in the case during the course of investigation. He likened Congress’s behaviour to that of a tiger deprived of its prey, becoming more restless and hostile.
Chauhan clarified that no BJP member was involved in the conspiracy or went to jail, while Congress leaders were found supporting the conspirators. He pointed out that Kamal Rawat, who was arrested as the main accused, had no connection with BJP as he had been already expelled in December 2022 for suspicious activities and is now stated to be actively associated with Congress. Police investigations, he said, have established Rawat as the chief conspirator, exposing Congress’s protection of such elements.
He added that Congress’s reaction after the truth surfaced was akin to a cat scratching a pole in frustration. Instead of apologising, the party has continued to level baseless allegations against BJP. Chauhan cited several instances where Congress’s attempts at misinformation had failed, including the apology tendered publicly by Kichha MLA Tilak Raj Behad, the circulation of a forged letter in the name of Gadarpur MLA Arvind Pandey, and the recent Champawat episode.
Chauhan alleged that Congress seeks power by sacrificing moral principles and relying on deceit. He asserted that BJP would not tolerate disrespect towards women and continues to enjoy the blessings of the people. He also emphasised that under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s transparent and zero-tolerance policy, Uttarakhand is progressing steadily, and no storm of propaganda can obstruct development. He urged Congress to play the role of a constructive opposition, warning that its long list of negative actions has already reached the public and will cost it dearly.
