Dehradun, 3 Jun: Congress workers staged a strong protest outside the CBSE regional office on Kaulagarh Road here today and demanded the dismissal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak, alleged irregularities in CBSE examination copy checking and the CUET examination. The demonstrators surrounded the office for nearly an hour, raising slogans and carrying placards calling for the minister’s removal.
Leading the protest, Congress state vice‑president SK Dhasmana accused the BJP government at the Centre of jeopardising the future of millions of youth. He said the irregularities in these examinations had proved that the government was pushing the future of the country’s students into darkness. He added that the Education Minister ought to have resigned on moral grounds when the NEET paper leak was confirmed, but it was surprising that he had not yet stepped down.
The Congress leaders said that not only NEET but examinations conducted in BJP‑ruled states across the country lacked transparency. They described the leak of NEET, a prestigious test through which young aspirants become doctors, as unfortunate and damaging. He alleged that the government had failed to conduct even a single examination with complete transparency. Referring to complaints of answer sheets being replaced in CBSE examinations, the Congress leaders claimed that the students were feeling cheated and disillusioned.
Party leaders further pointed out that irregularities in the Central University Entrance Test had exposed the state of the country’s education system. They also criticised the Centre’s announcement that NEET would now be conducted with the assistance of the Indian Air Force, saying this itself was an admission of the collapse of the system. They observed that the need to involve military resources for conducting examinations reflected the gravity of the situation and the government’s inability to ensure fairness and credibility in the education process.
