Dehradun, 16 Feb: The Congress has decided to seek clarification from the party MLAs who have supported the holding of the assembly session in Dehradun instead of Gairsain. This was claimed by Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Karan Mahara while speaking informally with the media persons here today. It may be recalled that 40 MLAs of Uttarakhand had written a letter to Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan and to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prem Chand Aggarwal requesting that the government hold the coming Budget Session of the State Assembly in Dehradun in view of the extreme cold prevailing in Gairsain. Among those who had signed the letter also included some Congress MLAs.

Karan Mahara said not holding the budget session in Gairsain is an insult to the martyrs of the statehood movement. He asserted that the MLAs are public representatives and those who signed the letter to hold the budget session in Dehradun have hurt the sentiments of the martyrs and agitationists.

Mahara pointed out that, after receiving the letter containing signatures of 40 MLAs, the state government has decided to hold the budget session in Dehradun. This decision of the government is contrary to the sentiments of state formation. During the time of Congress government, a session was also conducted in a tent in Gairsain and it laid the foundation of infrastructure development. Today a grand assembly building has been built in Bhararisain.

If the government cannot hold sessions in Gairsain in February and March, then when will it do so, he asked. Before the state elections in 2022, the BJP government declared it the summer capital, but is avoiding going to Gairsain
