Sports Dept directed to complete construction of facilities on time

Dehradun, 16 Feb: Chief Secretary Radha Raturi today laid special emphasis on the long-term development of sports infrastructure and facilities in Uttarakhand for the proposed 38th National Games in the state with a Legacy Plan. She was reviewing preparations for the games in the state. She gave instructions to the officials concerned to develop world class sports infrastructure and facilities in the state within the time limit. She was chairing a High Powered Committee (HPC) Meeting constituted for the 38th National Games. It was claimed by the officials during the meeting that 80 percent work related to infrastructure development for the proposed National Games has been completed.
The Chief Secretary said that organising the National Games is a golden opportunity to establish Uttarakhand as a world class host of green sports and green tourism. She directed that sports facilities and infrastructure should be developed in a way that the players and youth of the state can take advantage of these facilities for a long time in the future.
She directed the officials to link the proposed National Games in the state with the Anti Drugs Campaign, Green National Games and the campaign to develop sports culture. Emphasising the concept of organising the proposed National Games as Green National Games, the Chief Secretary has given instructions to use recycled medals. For this, she urged the officers that the mementos received by the officers on various occasions can be donated for the purpose. The Chief Secretary directed the officials to develop the proposed National Games stadiums and sports venues on the green concept and self-sustainable concept and make arrangements for solar lights, etc., at stadiums and sports venues with the help of UREDA.
The Chief Secretary further directed the officers to immediately organize a meeting with the Public Works Department (PWD) and other related departments for the improvement and strengthening of roads in view of the proposed National Games and to pay special attention to internet facilities.
Special Principal Secretary, Sports and Youth Welfare, Amit Sinha, Secretary Shailesh Bagauli and other officials of the Sports Department were present at the meeting.
