Dehradun, 15 May: Six months have passed since Ganesh Godiyal assumed charge as president of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), but formation of the party’s state executive committee is still awaited. As such, Godiyal is left effectively functioning without a full organisational team at a crucial time when the state assembly elections are just a few months away.
Amid growing speculation within party circles, Ganesh Godiyal reached New Delhi yesterday according to the party sources for an important visit linked to the long-pending formation of the Pradesh Congress Committee executive. Senior Congress leaders are hopeful that following the meetings with the party high command on Friday, the list of office-bearers and members of the PCC executive will finally be announced.
The delay has become a matter of discussion within the party, particularly because the Assembly elections in Uttarakhand are drawing close. Despite repeated organisational restructuring exercises, the Congress has so far failed to constitute the state executive not only during the tenure of the current state president but also throughout the term of his predecessor Karan Mahara.
It may be recalled that Karan Mahara, a former MLA, had served as president of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee for nearly three years and seven months between April 2022 and November 2025. During his tenure, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were also held, yet the party organisation was functioning without a formally constituted state executive committee.
With the 2027 Assembly elections now emerging as a key political priority, the Congress leadership is believed to be finally keen on avoiding any further delay in organisational appointments. Highly placed sources within Congress claim that Godiyal’s current Delhi visit is directly connected to finalising the long-pending executive committee and strengthening the organisational structure ahead of the electoral battle. Meanwhile, many senior national leaders from Congress including the leader in charge of the party affairs in Uttarakhand, Kumari Selja have toured the state several times but no progress could be made in this respect so far.
However, speaking to Garhwal Post, some senior party leaders shared that the process of organisational restructuring in the state unit is already underway. The added that the appointments ranging from the state president to district presidents, party in-charges and Block Congress Committees have been finalised while the process of expanding district-level executive committees are also progressing.
The leaders conceded that the announcement of the Pradesh Congress Committee Executive, which ideally should have taken place earlier, has certainly been delayed. They claimed that the state leadership wants energetic and capable workers to be entrusted with responsibilities so that they could strengthen the organisation with commitment and dedication.
They also claim that Ganesh Godiyal has been continuously making efforts to ensure that his organisational team is constituted.
