Dehradun, 8 Jul: Uttarakhand’s Corbett FC defeated Golajo FC of Himachal Pradesh in a thrilling extra-time finish to win the AIFF Futsal Club Championship title. This marks the first-ever senior football team title-win for an Uttarakhand team in any All India Football Federation (AIFF) tournament in the last 24 years.
The final, held at the Swarnim Gujarat Sports University in Vadodara, saw both teams locked at 2-2 after regulation time. Tournament top scorer PC Lalruatsanga scored the winning goal in extra time to secure a memorable 3-2 victory for Corbett FC. Lalruatsanga finished the tournament with a phenomenal 17 goals.
According to Subash Arora, owner of the team, it is a unique achievement for Uttarakhand. As this championship is played indoors and on a wooden ground, it’s a bit different from regular football, needing more skills and power. He is confident that soon more players will participate in this form of the game.
