RUDRAPUR, 6 Jun: Former Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the BJP -led state government and on Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, calling the ruling party anti‑people. He was addressing the media here on Saturday. Rawat claimed that inflation, unemployment, migration, crimes against women and corruption are at their peak in the state and claimed that the public now desires change. Rawat asserted that Congress will return to power in the 2027 Assembly elections.
Rawat also claimed that rising inflation under BJP rule has broken the backbone of the common people and that the unemployed youth continue to wander in search of jobs despite tall claims of employment generation by the government. He added that migration from the state remains unchecked and no concrete steps have been taken to address this serious issue.
Highlighting women’s safety, Rawat alleged that crimes against women have increased and that the government has failed completely in this regard. He also mentioned the problems faced by the traders and the farmers and claimed that the BJP government is neglecting them. He added that the traders are struggling with various difficulties and farmers are not getting fair prices for their produce.
Rawat further accused the BJP government of promoting corruption and claimed that corruption has become a norm in today’s time. He remarked that the complaints of corruption in different departments are surfacing regularly but no effective action is being taken to deal with them which, he claimed is eroding public trust in the government.
The veteran Congress leader asserted that the Congress will go to the people in the next Assembly elections with issues such as inflation, unemployment, migration, women’s harassment, traders’ distress and farmers’ neglect as its main agenda.
On the question of factionalism within Congress, Rawat said when good days arrive everyone unites. He expressed confidence that Congress’s good days are ahead, leaders and workers will strengthen the organisation together, and the party will ensure victory in 2027 assembly elections in Uttarakhand.
