IIT Roorkee holds meet on transportation sector

ROORKEE, 16 Feb: CTRANS, a Centre of Excellence, established by IIT Roorkee in the area of Transportation and infrastructure is holding a two day workshop called SYNERGIA, which is IndustryAcademia meet with a purpose of building a synergy between the industry and academics related to transportation and infrastructure for the mutual benefit of academics, the students and the industry.
The two day meet includes activities such as panel discussions, expert lectures, PG Curriculum Workshop (NEP), Students Idea Competition, demonstration workshop, idea and project exhibition, cultural programmes and informal interactions with experts. Today was the first day of the meet. On the first day, the programme began in the morning with a welcome address by Prof Uttam K Roy, head of CTRANS. This was followed by the keynote address which was delivered by Prof S Rangnekar, Chair of SYNERGIA Sub Committee. Prof Akshay Dvivedi, who is the Dean of Sponsored Research at IIT Roorkee also address the meet. Director of IIT Roorkee, Prof KK Pant followed with his address. This session concluded with Vote on Thanks proposed by Prof A Ramesh, Chair CAPC, CTRANS.
The panel discussion was held on the topic, “Infrastructure Policy, Research & Development: Roles of Institutions”, which was chaired by Prof Prof Durga Toshniwal and Prof E Rajasekar. Speakers in the panel discussion were Dr DS Khatri, Director, Vembsys Technovation, Dr Suvrakamal Dutta, Economic and Policy Expert and Prof Manoj Choudhary, Vice Chancellor, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya.
A PG Curriculum workshop was also held on the theme, “Revisiting MTech, Infrastructure Systems program in view of NEP, 2022 and industry Need”. This session was chaired by Prof BR Gurjar and Prof Anil Kumar. The speakers were Prof A Ramesh, CAPC Chair, CTRANS, Prof C Ramachandran, Associate Dean, Academics, Prof. Koushik Paul, PIC, Placement and Training, IITR, Dr Suvrakamal Dutta, Economic and Policy Expert and Dr DS Khatri, Director, Vembsys Technovation.
Tomorrow, a major session of experts lectures is scheduled. This session will be sponsored by Prof SK Ghosh and Prof Heman Suman. The experts scheduled to speak tomorrow include Prof Nayan Sharma, Former Adjunct Professor, CTRANS on the topic, “Challenges and opportunities of large scale water transport Projects” and Dr OP Agarwal, IAS (Retd), Principal author of NUTP and formerly CEO, WRI India on the topic, “Challenges of Urban Mobility and Emerging Trends”. The valedictory session will be related to activities such as a workshop on softwares and skills, jury discussion on idea of competition and prizes distribution etc.
It may be recalled that CTRANS Centre aims to evolve a holistic approach to the study of transportation and it’s management systems. It is primarily a multi-disciplinary initiative working since 2005 with the collective participation of Engineers, Architects, Planners, Managers, Scientists and Researchers from all backgrounds. The objective of CTRANS is to promote multidisciplinary research and education for manpower development in transportation systems encompassing all modes of Transport such as Road Transport, Nonmotorized Transport (NMT), Rail Transport, Inland Water Transport, Air Transportation, Freight & Logistics Transport, etc.
CTRANS is also providing sponsorship opportunities for the interested industries to show case their products, services, etc. during the exhibition of SynergiA. Following are the categories of the sponsorships: Platinum category of Funding is of amounts more than Rs 3 lakhs. The Diamond category of funding ranges between more than Rs 2 lakhs and up to 3 lakhs while the Gold category of funding ranges between more than Rs 1 lakh and up to Rs 2 lakhs. The Silver category of funding ranges between Rs 51,000 and up to Rs 1 lakh.
IIT Roorkee keen on joint research projects with U’khand Govt: KK Pant

DEHRADUN, 16 Feb: In the sidelines of the CTRANS meet, Director of Industries, Government of Uttarakhand SC Nautiyal called on Prof KK Pant, Director IIT Roorkee. During an informal discussion between the two, Prof Pant said that while IIT Roorkee was engaged in several research projects with the Union Government aimed to enhance Startups under various sectors and projects that can benefit the local industry, the IIT Roorkee, was also keen to have joint research projects with the Government of Uttarakhand in order to promote and aid more Startup projects, because IIT Roorkee was located in Uttarakhand.
During the meeting, Director IIT Prof KK Pant also presented a Coffee Table book and commemorative coin prepared on the occasion of 175th year of establishment of the institution to SC Nautiyal.
