Dehradun / New Delhi, 10 Feb: Haridwar Member of Parliament and former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat strengthened the resolve for a malnutrition-free India by raising an important question in Parliament regarding the Suposhanit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan (Well-Nourished Village Panchayat Campaign). He sought detailed information from the government on the identification of high-performing gram panchayats, the selection process, ranking, incentives, measurable outcomes, and the impact of the campaign across various states and districts—particularly in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, as well as in aspirational and tribal areas.
In a written reply to the House, Minister of Panchayati Raj Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) informed him that the campaign was launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development on 26 December 2024. Under this initiative, up to 10% of gram panchayats from each state/Union Territory will be nominated on the basis of data from the Poshan Tracker app, from which the top 1,000 Suposhanit (well-nourished) gram panchayats across the country will be selected.
The selected panchayats will receive an incentive grant of Rs 1 lakh per panchayat, which will be used to strengthen Anganwadi services, nutrition-related activities, basic infrastructure, and community participation. The evaluation process will be entirely outcome-oriented and data-driven, with improvement in the nutritional status of children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers as the key indicators.
On this occasion, MP Trivendra Singh Rawat stated that gram panchayats are the true backbone of a malnutrition-free India. Through a data-based, transparent, and competitive model, this nutrition-focused initiative will bring about tangible change at the grassroots level.
His intervention sets a new direction for nutrition, health, and human development not only in the Haridwar parliamentary constituency but also across gram panchayats throughout the country.
