DEHRADUN, 15 Dec: A delegation of the Dehradun Ex-Servicemen League (DESL) led by Lt Gen GS Negi, Chief Patron, DESL, along with Col US Thakur, President, Col BM Thapa, Senior Vice President, and Col BS Shahi, Secretary, met Maj Gen Bhaskar Kalita, GOC, Uttarakhand Sub Area, on 14 December in connection with the AGM of DESL scheduled to be held on 22 December at the Dehradun Sainik Institute. Gen Kalita welcomed the delegation and promised to provide all necessary help for the AGM. He assured that all representatives of ECHS, Sub Area Canteen and Veteran cells would be made available during the AGM to discuss the problems of ESM and Veer Narees, if any. Gen Negi explained the functioning of DESL and revealed that 26 of its Shakhas are located even in far flung areas of Doon valley, which sort out all the problems of ESM and Veer Narees. Representatives of DESL even visit remote areas on foot to meet ESM and Veer Narees to sort out their pension, ECHS and canteen problems. Gen Negi also sought financial help to conduct the AGM as arrangements had to be made for nearly 400 people who come from far flung areas. Col Thakur thanked the GOC for providing DSI and other help to ESM. Col Thapa stated that Gurkhas with addresses of Nepal on the discharge book were deprived of genuine facilities by the Zila Sainik Kalyan office such as identity cards, scholarship for children, financial help for daughter’s marriage, etc. The GOC was requested to take up this issue.
