Dehradun, 23 Jul: Senior IAS officer, Ranveer Singh Chauhan, has been given additional charge as Director General Agriculture & Horticulture by the government. In an order issued today by the Personnel Department, Chauhan has been asked to take over the charge at the earliest.
It may be recalled that Chauhan already holds the post of Additional Secretary Agriculture.  It has been decided to post Additional Secretary, Drinking Water, Project Director, Namami Gange and Project Director, KFW.
It may be recalled that the government has decided to merge the top level posts of Agriculture and Horticulture and for this has created a new post of Director General of Agriculture & Horticulture instead of the two posts of Director Agriculture and Director Horticulture. However, the lower posts of the two departments have not been merged in view of a strong opposition by the employees of both the departments. Had these posts were merged, then seniority of the officials would have got disturbed and therefore there has been a strong opposition in both the departments to the merger of the two departments, something that has been proposed by the government since long.
