Dehradun, 11 Sep: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the people of Uttarakhand for announcing a relief package to compensate for the losses caused by the recent disaster in the state. It may be recalled that the PM had visited Dehradun today to assess the losses in recent calamities but he was unable to undertake an aerial survey of the disaster affected regions in view of the inclement weather but held meetings with the relief teams, the disaster affected families and CM Dhami and other senior leaders and officers.
Dhami noted that the state government has been making every possible effort to tackle the calamity with full capacity and from the very first day the Central government has extended its cooperation. He said that Modi himself visited Uttarakhand, shared the grief of the affected people, and for his sensitivity and affection towards the state, he conveyed deep appreciation for the PM.
Earlier, the CM had briefed the PM on the damages caused by the disaster in the state and the relief and rescue operations being carried out in the affected areas. He said that the Central agencies have provided full support in conducting relief and rescue missions with promptness and efficiency, making it possible to deliver adequate assistance to the affected population swiftly. He added that roads and public infrastructure had suffered extensive damage in the calamity-hit areas, and restoration of basic facilities is being undertaken on a war footing.
BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt also conveyed his gratitude to Modi for extending an economic package as initial assistance and for boosting the morale of the disaster-stricken Dev Bhoomi. He said that the Prime Minister has a special bond with Uttarakhand and his visits always bring new energy. At a time when the state is grappling with a grave disaster, the timely help being provided by Modi and the Central government has been of immense importance. His personal presence to assess the devastation and his interaction with victims as well as with disaster management officials has greatly encouraged both the affected population and the agencies involved in relief operations. His concern for the victims and his detailed discussions with officials on every aspect of relief and rehabilitation reflect his sensitivity and seriousness towards the tragedy.
Expressing thanks for the immediate announcement of the relief package, Bhatt described it as significant initial assistance for the people of the state. He pointed out that even earlier, with the help of Central government’s technical and human resources and planning, the losses were contained to an extent. He expressed hope that just as Modi has always extended large-scale assistance in the progress of Dev Bhoomi, he will continue to provide every possible support in rebuilding the disaster-affected regions of the state in the future as well.
It may be recalled that those present during the meeting held by PM Modi included MP and state BJP President Mahendra Bhatt, Members of Parliament Ajay Bhatt, Trivendra Singh Rawat, Anil Baluni, Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah, Naresh Bansal, Kalpana Saini, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, and Director General of Police Deepam Seth.
