Dehradun 1 Aug: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today called up the newly elected young Pradhan of Sarkot village near Gairsain in Chamoli district, Priyanka Negi, and congratulated her on her election win. At just 21 years of age, Priyanka Negi’s election is being widely regarded as a commendable development, signalling a positive change in local governance.

The CM noted that Sarkot is being developed by the government as a model village, with plans to establish similar villages in other districts across the state. In line with this, all Chief Development Officers will be tasked with visiting Sarkot to study its development model firsthand.

Dhami spoke directly to Priyanka Negi over the phone to commend her achievement and lauded the residents of Sarkot for choosing an educated and dynamic young woman as their leader. Dhami advised Priyanka to continue working devotedly towards the further progress of Sarkot and assured her that all projects pertaining to agriculture, animal husbandry, and women’s self-employment would be accelerated in the village. He also invited Priyanka to Dehradun for detailed discussions on the future developmental plans for the village.

Priyanka Negi expressed her gratitude to the state government for adopting Sarkot as a model village, noting that the basic amenities in the village have vastly improved and several development projects have been successfully implemented. She reaffirmed her commitment to working for the ongoing advancement of Sarkot with the support of the government.

The CM observed that the election of many young and educated representatives in the recent panchayat elections is a very positive sign for the functioning of the three-tier panchayat system. Dhami reiterated the government’s resolve to fully support these representatives, emphasising that the model villages would be equipped with employment opportunities, self-employment schemes, and all essential facilities, thereby serving as exemplars for other districts.
