Dehradun, 13 Apr: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today joined the local residents at Ballupur Chowk in a civic initiative organised by the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Doon Nagar Nigam) under the banner of ‘Swechha Se Swachhata (Cleanliness by Choice)’. Participating in the campaign, Dhami urged the people across Uttarakhand to remain conscious of cleanliness and to take responsibility for maintaining a healthy environment.

The special sanitation drive was conducted from 7 to 13 April 2026 by Doon Nagar Nigam and it was aimed at making the city cleaner, more attractive and healthier. As part of the campaign, ward-level activities included sweeping, waste disposal and awareness programmes designed to involve citizens directly in the effort.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhami emphasised that cleanliness cannot be achieved through government action alone and requires active public participation. He said that sanitation must become an inseparable part of daily life, and lasting change will only be possible when every citizen voluntarily contributes. He added that everyone ought to it upon oneself to keep one’s homes, neighbourhoods and cities clean. He added that the civic responsibility begins at the individual level.

Commending the Municipal Corporation for its initiative, Dhami noted that such participatory programmes play a vital role in bringing positive change to society. He also called for similar campaigns to be held regularly so that awareness of cleanliness remains constant and citizens continue to engage with the cause.

Among those present on the occasion were Cabinet Ministers Ganesh Joshi and Khajan Das, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt, Doon Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, MLA Savita Kapoor, BJP organisation secretary Ajaey Kumar and other public representatives.
