Dehradun, 4 Sep: Dilip Jawalkar, Secretary, Cooperation, and Administrator of the State Cooperative Bank, has issued a significant directive to strengthen the cooperative banking sector in the state. He has instructed cooperative officials and the Managing Directors (MDs) of cooperative banks to focus on loan expansion by organising loan camps. This initiative is poised to play a crucial role in the economic empowerment of local people throughout Uttarakhand, where cooperative banks currently operate approximately 330 branches and 670 Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative Societies (MPACS).
In a bid to enhance the livelihoods of farmers in the state, Secretary Jawalkar has emphasised the need for organising loan camps by cooperative banks and committees in every block. The aim of this initiative is to facilitate easier access to financial resources for farmers, allowing them to increase their production capacity and ultimately work towards doubling their income.
Secretary Jawalkar highlighted the importance of identifying financial barriers faced by farmers. Many farmers struggle to obtain loans from traditional banking institutions due to urgent needs and a lack of financial literacy. By organising specialised loan camps in local blocks, the cooperative sector is making a concrete effort to provide financial services directly to farmers. This not only simplifies the borrowing process but also educates farmers about various financial products suited to their needs.
It is worth noting that organising loan camps is a critical necessity for empowering farmers and enhancing their economic stability. With various supportive schemes such as the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Scheme, savings centres, sales and purchase schemes, and consumer schemes, these camps promote a comprehensive support system. By improving access to financial resources and essential goods, organised loan camps can significantly contribute to agricultural development and the overall well-being of rural communities.
