Dehradun, 6 May: Resident doctors from Doon Medical College Hospital boycotted work and staged a sit-in at the emergency complex of the hospital here, today, seeking security for doctors. The protest was held after the attendant of a patient pointed a toy gun at a doctor demanding immediate treatment of his patient. This incident occurred in the Emergency Ward of the Hospital late last night.
After the incident, the resident doctors staged a dharna at the Emergency Ward Building demanding action against the culprits and also tight security arrangements at the hospital.
The Police have arrested the person who had pointed the pistol at the doctor. However, angry with this incident, the resident doctors of Doon Hospital staged a protest by boycotting work.
Meanwhile, Principal of Doon Medical College, Dr Ashutosh Sayana says that an unfortunate incident happened in the emergency room of the hospital last night. Some attendant misbehaved with the doctor present there and threatened the doctor with a pistol. After which the police was immediately informed about this and the police took action and arrested the person who showed the pistol. He said that in pursuance of the demand to strengthen the security arrangements at the hospital, some doctors decided to go on strike and tried to disrupt OPD services.
After this, the doctors met the Medical Superintendent of Doon Hospital and after his assurance for needful action, they ended the strike. Dr Sayana says that to ensure that such incidents do not recur, strong security arrangements will be made by the hospital management.
It may be recalled that a large number of people come to Doon Medical College Hospital every day for treatment, and due to the dharna, the patients had to face a lot of inconvenience today.
