Dolphin PGI wins 2nd Ram Niwas Gupta Memorial Volleyball Tournament

DEHRADUN, 26 Nov: The Ram Niwas Gupta Memorial Inter-University Volleyball Tournament concluded today at the Dolphin PG Institute, Dehradun campus. It began on 25 November. Around 21 teams participated from various universities and institutes. Present at the concluding ceremony were Dr Arun Kumar, Director, Dolphin Institute, and International Volleyball Player Vinod Panwar. Dr Arun Kumar recalled the late Ram Niwas Gupta, stating he spent the whole of his life devoted to the uplift of the poor and needy. The semi-finals and finals were played, today. The 1st semi-final (boys) was played between Graphic Era University and DAV PG College. The former defeated the latter in a close contest. The 2nd semi-final was played between Jaspal Rana Sports Academy and Dolphin PG Institute, Dehradun. Dolphin Institute emerged the winner with a huge margin. The 1st semi-final for girls was played between MKP College and Uttaranchal University. MKP College was the winner. In the 2nd semi-final, DAV PG College defeated Dolphin Institute in straight sets. The finals were played with enthusiasm in spite of bad weather conditions. DAV PG College defeated MKP PG College in straight sets, 25-17 and 25-19 in the girls’ category. There was a stiff contest in the final of the boys’ category, with Dolphin PG Institute defeating Graphic Era University. Alankar Gautam provided live commentary through the tournament. The referees were NK Joshi, Sports Officer, International Volleyball player Vinod Panwar, Nitin Walia, Babinder Kharakwal and Ankit Uniyal. Present on the occasion were Principal Dr Shailja Pant, Dean, DSW, Vipul Garg, Dr Vidit Tyagi and Arnab Khanda along with faculty and students of various departments.
