Dehradun, 24 Apr: Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Dehradun district administration has removed boards of illegal Bhure Shah Mazar that had been installed along the national highway at the entry point to Uttarakhand from Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh. The boards, which greeted the travellers entering Devbhoomi, were taken down following a complaint lodged on the Chief Minister’s portal.

Soon after the instructions were issued, officials from Vikasnagar Sub-division and the National Highways Authority (NHAI) reached the site and removed the boards. According to the officials, this particular Bhure Shah Mazaar has been allegedly constructed illegally on forest land in the Kalsi Block in Dehradun district. The forest department had earlier pasted a notice on the structure, after which its caretakers have approached the High Court. SDM Vinod Kumar confirmed that the boards were removed by the National Highways Authority (NHAI) and correspondence has been initiated with the forest department for removal of the illegal mazaar itself.

It may also be reminded here that more than a dozen such franchise-style mazaars under the name of Bhure Shah had been built by encroaching on government land in Uttarakhand. The Dhami government has already demolished ten of these structures as part of its campaign against illegal encroachments. It may also be pertinent to note that in none of the demolished alleged mazaars, human remains have been found, which further raises a question mark over them being mazaars at all.
