Dehradun, 21 Oct: In view of Diwali, Chhath Puja, and other upcoming festivals, the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Doon Nagar Nigam) undertook a special city-wide sanitation drive from 11 to 20 October, following directives issued to the officials by Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal.
During this ten-day drive, approximately 702.2 tonnes of additional waste was collected from across the Municipal Corporation area and transported to the Sheeshambada Transfer Station and the Processing Plant for disposal.
To manage the surge in waste, an additional 100 to 150 tonnes are being lifted daily from various parts of the city. For this purpose, extra tractor-trollies and other vehicles have been deployed. All garbage collection vehicles have been provided with supplementary fuel to facilitate timely disposal through additional trips within the wards. In addition, five tractor-trollies are operating daily specifically for the collection of green waste.
Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal directed M/s Rasha Infrastructure, the company that operates the Kargi MTS and Sheeshambada Processing Plant, to run operations in both shifts to handle the increased load. All the Chief Sanitation Inspectors and the Sanitation Inspectors have also been directed to pay special attention to cleanliness arrangements in their respective wards to maintain hygiene standards during the festive period.
Bansal shared that this intensified sanitation campaign will continue until Chhath Puja, with the objective of establishing Dehradun as a model city in the field of cleanliness.
