Doon University VC briefs Gov on research initiatives

Dehradun, 15 Jan: The Vice Chancellor of Doon University, Prof Surekha Dangwal, gave a presentation on the progress of research being carried out under the “One University-One Research” scheme, in the presence of Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) on Wednesday at the Raj Bhawan, here.

The research at Doon University is focused on the topic, “Improving Women’s Lives and Livelihoods in Uttarakhand”. Under this scheme, the Governor had directed all state universities to conduct research in the interest of the state based on their areas of expertise.

During the presentation, the Vice Chancellor shared that the university’s research team had visited urban and rural areas of Uttarakhand to collect data related to women’s lives and livelihoods. The team conducted in-depth research and studies on topics such as women’s access to healthcare services, educational opportunities, financial services, security and protection, and quality of life. Additionally, the research also analysed aspects such as women’s entrepreneurship, livelihood diversification, reverse migration, the impact of government schemes, and other factors influencing livelihood improvement. Based on this research, the final conclusions are being formulated.

Lt Gen Singh praised the research work done by the university and stated that it would prove to be a milestone in the direction of women’s empowerment in Uttarakhand. He emphasised that the purpose of this research is to understand the current living conditions of women and to find concrete solutions to improve their livelihoods. The Governor lauded the women of Uttarakhand, saying that their hard work, talent, and potential are extraordinary. He highlighted the need to recognise and encourage their abilities, stating that, with the right direction, they can make unparalleled contributions to the development of the state and the nation.

The Governor further mentioned that the final recommendations of the research would be shared with the Uttarakhand Government and the Government of India. He congratulated the research team on their efforts and extended his best wishes to them.

The event was attended by Secretary Ravinath Raman, Additional Secretary Swati S Bhadoria, Dean of Social Sciences at the University Prof Rajendra P Mamgai, and Joint Director, Information, Dr Nitin Upadhyay.
