Dehradun, 11 Jun: The Governor of Uttarakhand and Chancellor of Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry, Bharsar, Pauri Garhwal (VCSG Uttarakhand University of Horticulture & Forestry), has appointed Dr Bhagwati Prasad Bhatt as Vice Chancellor of the university. The appointment has been made under the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Agriculture and Technology University Act, 1958, as applicable in Uttarakhand, following the panel recommended by the university’s executive committee.

Dr Bhatt, who has been serving as Special Officer at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, will hold charge as Vice Chancellor of the University. The appointment is for a period of 3 years as is provided under the rules. The selection of Prof Dr Bhatt marks a significant administrative step for the university, which has been awaiting stable leadership to strengthen its academic and research activities. Dr Bhatt is presently serving as interim Vice Chancellor of the University.

The official order issued from Raj Bhawan, Dehradun, supersedes the earlier interim arrangement notified in December 2025. Copies of the order have been sent to the Chief Secretary, the Chief Minister’s Office, the Agriculture Department, ICAR, and other authorities for necessary action.

Dr Bhatt’s background as Special Officer at ICAR, where he has been engaged in agricultural research and policy coordination, is expected to bring valuable expertise to the university. His experience in the national agricultural research system is seen as an asset in guiding the institution towards innovation in horticulture and forestry education, research and extension.

The appointment is being viewed as an important development for VCSG Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry, which plays a crucial role in promoting specialised education and research in the hill state. It is anticipated that under Dr Bhatt’s leadership, the university will gain new momentum in academic programmes, farmer‑oriented initiatives and collaboration with national institutions.
