Dehradun, 11 Jun: President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to arrive in Dehradun tomorrow on a two‑day visit. In this regard, Dehradun district administration has completed preparations to ensure smooth conduct of the programme. District Magistrate Dr Ashish Chauhan visited and inspected the arrangements and the preparations at President’s Ashiana and President’s Niketan complexes today. On this occasion, he directed the officials to maintain flawless security and facilities.
According to the programme, the President will reach President’s Niketan in Dehradun tomorrow and later visit the President’s Ashiana complex to review the progress of the ambitious President’s Garden being developed over 132 acres. On 13 June she will attend the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 158th Regular Course and 141st Technical Graduate Course at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) as Chief Guest.
During his inspection, Dr Chauhan emphasised that no lapse would be tolerated and instructed all the departments to submit fitness and clearance certificates for electricity, drinking water, fire safety, forest and other essential services. He directed that the infrastructure being developed in the President’s Garden must be completed within the stipulated time and all the necessary arrangements restored immediately.
The President’s Garden, which is the focal point of the upcoming visit, is being developed as a world‑class facility to promote greenery, health, tourism and cultural activities. The park will feature a theme zone, modern cafeteria, food court, jogging, cycling and walking tracks, a boardwalk, an open‑air theatre with a capacity of 800, a yoga pavilion, viewing decks and a waterfall. A dedicated sports zone and large parking facility are also under construction, along with three grand entry gates for smooth access.
The project is stated to be nearing completion and is expected to become a new identity for Dehradun.
Notably, the President had inaugurated the President’s Tapovan and President’s Niketan on 20 June last year and laid the foundation stone of the President’s Garden. Her forthcoming visit will allow her to personally review the progress of this ambitious initiative.
Along with DM Chauhan, ADM KK Mishra and ADM Smrita Parmar along with senior officials of CPWD, electricity, drinking water, forest, transport and other departments were also present at the time of inspection.
