Chengdu (China), 8 June: The 36th annual meeting of the Asia Pacific Association of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (APACRS) was a resounding success, with nearly 2000 Ophthalmologists from across the Asia-Pacific region coming together in Chengdu, China. This prestigious event, which took place in the picturesque city known for its pandas, brought together top doctors in the field of Cataract & Refractive surgery.
While almost 50 renowned Ophthalmologists from India attended the meeting, the delegation from India was led and represented by Dr Gaurav Luthra from Dehradun. At the opening ceremony, Dr Luthra was honored on stage by Prof Graham Barett, one of the most renowned innovator eye surgeons of the world from Australia, and Dr Yao Ke, the president of the Chinese Society of Cataract Refractive surgeons, CSCRS.
Other doctors felicitated on stage were all leaders from various countries in the Asia Pacific region including those from Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia & Bangladesh. Also felicitated were Dr David Chang, past president of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, who led the delegation from the USA and Dr Thomas Kohnen, representing the European society, among others.
Dr Gaurav Luthra, Medical Director and Head of Drishti Eye Institute, has been at the forefront of latest advancements in the field of Cataract and Laser Refractive surgery on the international stage recognised for his pioneering work in Robotic Laser Cataract Surgery as well as SMILE and Contoura lasik surgeries for specs removal. His primary areas of interest encompass Refractive Surgery, Laser & Phakic Lenses, Challenging Cataract Surgeries, Premium IOLs, and Keratoconus treatments.
The 2024 APACRS annual meeting provided a platform for ophthalmologist doctors to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and collaborate on the latest advancements in refractive surgery. The event highlighted the importance of continuous learning and collaboration in advancing the field of ophthalmology.
