Dehradun, 12 Sep: Taking cognisance of the news published in some newspapers regarding a minor teenager being raped by two minors in Rishikesh, Chairperson of Uttarakhand Child Rights Protection Commission Dr Geeta Dawar Khanna, has asked the SSP, Dehradun, to ensure quick investigation of the case and to submit a report to the Commission. Apart from this, Dr Geeta Dawar Khanna has also taken cognisance of the news published in some newspapers regarding a verification drive to be carried out of school van and bus drivers. She directed the officials in the Commission to send letters to the Regional Transport Officer, Dehradun district, and to SSP, Dehradun, in this matter to get the verification done at the earliest.
It may be recalled that earlier, too, Dr Khanna had expressed concern in this regard and had asked the Regional Transport Officer, Dehradun district, to appoint women conductors in school vans/buses and to ensure installation of CCTV cameras in the school vans and buses and to get all vehicles verified. The RTO was also told to get the documents of the school vehicles verified by submitting them to the police station nearest to the school.
Dr Khanna has asked the RTO to ensure that school vehicles do not carry more children than the seating capacity and that they paste telephone numbers and email IDs of 1098/112/Commission inside the vehicles. In this regard, the Chairperson has also sent a letter to the Director General of School Education, Uttarakhand, to direct all the schools of the district to submit the list of buses/vehicles operated from the schools with complete details of drivers/conductors to the nearest police station of the schools.
Dr Khanna also shared that an incident of suicide by a minor child in district Pauri Garhwal has come to the notice of the Commission, on which she has asked the Director, Women Empowerment and Child Development Department, and SSP, Pauri, to submit a report to the Commission.
