Mussoorie, 5 Jun: Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with fervor and gaiety here, today, marking the end of Ramzan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. The festivities began with the community members converging on all five mosques of the town for prayers, where they sought peace and harmony in the country.
Then they wished “Eid Mubarak” by hugging each other. Children dressed in colourful attire also wished each other on the occasion. Markets did brisk business and sweet shops were crowded. The festival is significant as much for its timing as for its religious implications. Various types of entertainment, ceremonies and feasting were arranged. The community members also devoted their time towards charity and giving alms to the poor. Platters of delicious cuisines were prepared in every Muslim household across the town.
