Dehradun 30 Sep: The death of a wild elephant has been reported from Haridwar late Sunday night. The news has disturbed environmentalists and forest officials alike. It is being claimed that the elephant came in contact with a high-tension line at a short distance from a village due to darkness. It died a painful death on the spot due to electrocution.
The forest department conducted a post-mortem of the elephant’s body and is also investigating the reasons behind the incident.
As soon as the information was received, there was panic in the forest department and Rajaji Tiger Reserve administration. Top officials reached the spot and the elephant’s body was taken into custody. At the same time, a crowd of nearby villagers also gathered on the spot to see the elephant.
It is worth noting that this area witnesses frequent visits of wild elephants. The team of the Forest Department and Rajaji Tiger Reserve was proving unsuccessful in stopping these elephants. Last night, also, the team was patrolling in order to drive away this elephant. But suddenly it came in contact with a high tension line and died a painful death.
