NEW DELHI, 13 Mar: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has organized the 2nd edition of the three-day ONGC Para Games 2018-19 at the Thyagraj Stadium. The 1st edition of the event was organized by ONGC in 2017. ONGC is the only public sector enterprise to organize such para Games, to promote the sporting talent of Persons with Disabilities (PwD).
ONGC has associated with the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) to organize the ONGC Para Games in a professional manner. The international format is being adopted to organize the Games.
Around 150 specially-abled employees of ONGC are participating in the tournament. Declaring the ONGC Para Games open on 13 March 2019, ONGC Videsh Director (Exploration) GS Chaturvedi said, “We must take the Para Games as an opportunity, not as a challenge”. He added that ONGC provides a lot of opportunities to its employees, particularly in the field of sports, to hone their talents and excel in every field of human endeavor.
Briefing the gathering about the games, ONGC Head Coordination Manoj Barthwal said, “Para sportspersons from across the country are participating in the event. The objective to organize such an event is to promote sports and bring out hidden talents among Divyang (specially abled) employees. This event is witnessing a steady growth in participation and ONGC expects that in the coming years the number of participants will increase further, and other public sector undertakings will also participate in such events.”
The first day of the three-day event witnessed energetic participation in Athletics, Badminton and Table Tennis.
ONGC has been promoting sports in India in a big way. There are over 150 international sportspersons in the rolls of ONGC who regularly bring laurels to India. In the last couple of years, ONGC has also organized successful corporate expeditions to Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga.
