Dehradun, 9 May: An explosion occurred in a junk dealer’s shop in Kidduwala (Raipur Block) here, today, causing injuries to at least 8 persons.
There was a sudden explosion in a junk shop in Kidduwala. Of the 8 people who got injured due to the explosion, 3 are reported to be in serious condition. According to the police, the explosion was of a military grade mortar that had been collected by the junk dealers from a local firing range. According to preliminary information, the condition of all the injured due to the blast is said to be critical. The injured have been immediately admitted to Doon Hospital by the police. According to Raipur police station, one person’s hand has been blown off in this blast and some other parts of the body are in critical condition.
According to the information, some scrap dealers from Kidduwala used to collect explosive material left over at the Army’s Firing Range located in Maldevta and then break them into pieces to sell them as scrapped metal. However, accidentally, the junk dealers appeared to have brought home an unexploded mortar which they were trying to break open with a hammer and it exploded.
SSP Ajay Singh shared with the media that information about a blast was received in Raipur area. Investigation has been done by visiting the site. The injured have been admitted to hospital. The bomb that exploded is also being investigated. He said that one of the injured youth has lost his hand. The condition of three remains more serious.
Raipur police station in-charge Kundan Lal said that the Police and the Fire Departments are investigating the case.
