Dehradun, 21 Oct: A major fire broke out in Dehradun’s Niranjanpur Mandi on the night of Diwali, causing panic among traders and local residents. The fire started suddenly around 9 p.m., and within minutes the flames spread to several shops and stalls in the busy market.
According to reports, large quantities of fruits, vegetables, and other goods kept in the shops were completely burnt. The loss is estimated to be in lakhs of rupees.
As soon as the fire was reported, several fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and started efforts to control the blaze. Firefighters worked continuously to stop the fire from spreading further. However, it took time to bring the situation under control due to the heavy crowd and the large amount of combustible material in the area.
The exact cause of the fire is not yet known, but officials suspect that sparks from Diwali fireworks might have triggered the incident. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported.
Niranjanpur Mandi is one of the busiest wholesale fruit and vegetable markets in Dehradun, where thousands of farmers and traders come daily to sell their produce. The fire has caused huge financial losses to shopkeepers and vendors during the festive season.
