DEHRADUN, 30 Jan: A meeting under the aegis of the Sanyukta Nagrik Sangathan along with other social organisations was held at Gandhi Park here, today, to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 72nd Death Anniversary. This day is observed as Martyrs’ Day to remember not only Mahatma Gandhi but all those who sacrificed their lives for the country. Tribute was also paid to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his 123rd Birth Anniversary; as also to the former Defence Minister of the country, George Fernandes, who was a prominent social and Trade Union leader.
Those who took part in the tribute included National Association for Parents and Students’ Rights (NAPSR), Bose Samiti, Kareer Society, Jagatbandhu Service Trust, Residential Society, Freedom Fighters and Successor Welfare Committee, Nirbhaya Social Welfare, Invaluable Life Organisation, Lion Himalayan Society and others.
Floral tributes were paid by all present on the occasion and prominent amongst those who spoke included Sushil Tyagi, Brig KG Behl (Retd), President, AICC & SNS, Jitendra Dandona, Jagmohan Mendiratta, SP Chauhan, Arif Khan, Sardar H Singh, Dr Amarjeet Kaur, Dr Mukul Sharma, Bishambhar Nath Bajaj, Asha Tamta, Dr Mahesh Bhandari, Sumit Kumar, Ganesh Chand, B Negi, Govardhan Sharma, Umesh Uniyal, Jitendra Dandona, Arvind Gupta, Mukesh Narayan Sharma, etc.
Two minutes’ of silence was observed at exactly 11 a.m. to pay homage to the martyrs and Mahatma Gandhi.
