Mussoorie, 13 Jul: A significant step was taken on Monday to provide major relief to local residents affected by the proposed ropeway project connecting Purukul (Dehradun) to Library Chowk (Mussoorie). Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi laid the foundation stone for an alternative motorable road—costing Rs 1.31 crore —to serve the residential area located above the ropeway’s lower terminal in Purukul village. This road will ensure smooth movement for locals during the ropeway’s construction and provide improved road connectivity for the area in the future.

Following the foundation stone ceremony, Minister Ganesh Joshi stated that, while advancing development projects, the government is fully mindful of the interests of those affected. He noted that the Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway project is one of the state’s ambitious initiatives; it aims to ease travel between the two cities, reduce traffic congestion, and give a new boost to tourism. However, steps are simultaneously being taken to ensure that local residents face no inconvenience. The Minister added that the construction of the approximately 1.5-kilometre-long alternative road would be completed within the stipulated timeframe and to high-quality standards. He instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) and the executing agency not to compromise on construction quality and to complete the road in a time-bound manner to provide early relief to the locals. He added that the state government is continuously strengthening road connectivity and infrastructure. This new route will not only facilitate movement for the residential area but also significantly bolster the future development and connectivity of the entire region.

It is worth noting that the Purukul-Mussoorie ropeway project is considered crucial for alleviating the growing traffic pressure in Mussoorie and providing tourists with fast, safe, and convenient transportation. In this context, the construction of an alternative road for the local population alongside the project is viewed as a significant measure. Senior activists Laxman Singh Rawat, Kiran, and Anurag Singh, along with Rajesh Kumar (Executive Engineer, Public Works Department) and a large number of local residents, were present on this occasion.
