DEHRADUN, 23 Aug: The Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS) hosted its 37th annual meeting from August 21-23 in the bustling city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Over 1400 surgeons attended from the Asia Pacific countries. Recognized for its ambitious and forward-thinking agenda, this year’s event drew attention with a lineup of cutting-edge programmes centered on the latest advancements in cataract and refractive surgery.
One among the several international and academic luminaries present at the conference, Gaurav Luthra stood out for his vast knowledge and dynamic presentation skills.  Luthra was given the prestigious honour of leading the Indian delegates at the inauguration, marking a significant milestone in his contributions to the field. His presence not only showcased his stature in ophthalmology but also highlighted India’s commitment to excellence in eye care. Throughout the conference, he conducted two highly anticipated masterclasses that focused on critical aspects of modern ophthalmologic practice. The first session delved into advanced biometry for precise lens selection in cataract surgery, aiming to help patients achieve spectacle independence. In the second session, he explored the use of phakic lenses as a viable option for myopia correction when laser surgery is not an option.
In addition to his masterclasses, Luthra gave an insightful lecture on the latest advances in robotic image-guided laser cataract surgery, as well as new methodologies in spectacle removal surgeries. His ability to simplify complex topics into practical, actionable advice was refreshing and engaging, making a significant impact within the context of this year’s theme, “Learning from the Masters.”
At the glittering inaugural ceremony, Luthra representing India was joined on stage by leaders of delegations from Japan, Indonesia, China, Bangladesh, Philippines, USA, Europe, Singapore and Thailand among other countries participating in the meet.
The conference fostered an environment of collaboration, bringing together top surgeons, researchers, and industry leaders from across the globe. It highlighted APACRS’s longstanding role as an essential platform for professionals in the field, allowing them to share insights, explore innovative techniques, and form meaningful connections. The spirit of camaraderie was palpable throughout the event, as participants left not only with heightened expertise but also with renewed friendships and professional networks that are critical for their careers.
Participants are left eagerly anticipating the next APACRS gathering at Bangkok next year, where learning, collaboration, and cutting-edge innovations in cataract and refractive surgery will continue to thrive.
