DEHRADUN, 6 Nov: Celebrations of the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev started with pomp and show in the packed auditorium of Guru Nanak Academy here today. Students of the four Houses – Ajit, Fateh, Jujhar and Zorawar had speech competitions in English, Hindi and Punjabi. The tiny tots from Nursery, KG and Std 1 recited the Mool Mantra and Satnam Waheguru Jaap most beautifully. Students from Stds II and III recited Gurbani shabads. Finally a short motivational devotional movie and a documentary on Guru Nanak Dev were shown to the students and questions were asked on the film – ten prizes were decided to be awarded to good answers. An essay competition for Std IV to Std XII students was held in the classes on an earlier date and the results were announced. Six prizes were decided to be awarded to the children wearing beautiful and well tied turbans. All prizes winners will also perform on the final day of Gurparab celebrations on 8 November and will be awarded prizes on that day at the main congregation.
