UTTARKASHI, 2 Apr: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in a Shrimad Bhagwat Katha organised in Nagana village of Badkot tehsil here on Saturday, where he shared the spiritual atmosphere along with the people of the area, sitting through the sacred discourse at length. Later, offered prayers for the peace, prosperity and welfare of the state, underscoring the importance of religious and cultural traditions in public life. Former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank was also present on this occasion.
The event was held on Saturday as part of the annual Shraaddh ceremony of Uma Chauhan, wife of BJP’s media in‑charge Manveer Singh Chauhan. The Chief Minister’s presence infused a sense of collective devotion and community bonding among the villagers and guests. Addressing the gathering, Dhami said that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office, the country has entered a golden age of Sanatan Dharma, pointing to major religious projects such as the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi and the Ram temple in Ayodhya as visible symbols of that revival. He added that such initiatives have strengthened the faith and cultural identity of millions across India while also promoting religious tourism and associated economic activities.
During the discourse, Dhami stressed that listening to the Shrimad Bhagwat Katha awakens human intellect and discrimination, simultaneously paving the way for the liberation of ancestors to Vaikuntha. Drawing a parallel between sacred geographies, he said that just as Vrindavan is revered as Vrinda Dham, Uttarakhand is a divine land where the four Dhams are enshrined, thereby reinforcing the idea of the state as a spiritual hub. He also spoke about the government’s work at Kedarnath following its reconstruction and said that in Badrinath, work has been progressing under a master‑plan framework, aimed at improving infrastructure, safety and the overall experience of pilgrims. Emphasising that development is not a one‑day process but a continuous journey, he listed several initiatives and schemes undertaken by his administration, underlining the need for sustained planning and execution.
At the same time, responding to a request from the village Pradhan, the CM assured the residents of Nagana that the administration would construct a Baraat Ghar in the village, which would facilitate local marriage and community gatherings. This commitment was welcomed by the villagers, who viewed it as both a practical developmental measure and a gesture of respect for rural customs and social life. On this occasion, Cabinet Minister Khajan Das, former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Purola MLA Durgeshwar Lal, Gangotri MLA Sureh Chauhan, District Magistrate Prashant Arya and Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Upadhyay, along with other elected representatives and officials, were present.
