Mussoorie, 13 Dec: Golf carts will soon ply on the Mall Road here. An agreement has been reached between the administration and rickshaw drivers in this regard. A meeting was held today with rickshaw drivers and local public representatives by SDM Anamika Singh and Sadar SDM Hari Giri and a detailed discussion was held regarding the operation of golf carts.
Anamika Singh said that four golf carts are to be operated in the first phase, for which rickshaw drivers have been given priority. She said that rickshaw drivers will be given training regarding the operation of golf carts so that they can operate these safely. She said that some rickshaw drivers want to leave the rickshaw operation, for which they have to be given compensation from the government level. She would hold talks at the government level in this regard. Other rickshaw drivers will be accommodated in golf carts. In the first phase, four golf carts are being acquired and after their successful operation, golf carts will be operated on different routes of Mussoorie. Mussoorie Mazdoor Sangh President Ranjit Singh Chauhan said that the Mazdoor Sangh and rickshaw drivers welcome the initiative of the administration regarding the operation of golf carts in Mussoorie. It has been agreed that only rickshaw drivers will operate the golf carts. Some are asking to be given compensation. He said that he is ready to cooperate with the district administration in every way in the matter.
Former Municipal Chairman OP Uniyal and President of Mussoorie Traders’ Welfare Association Rajat Agarwal said that the government is working to make Mussoorie beautiful and organised.
To ensure that the livelihood of rickshaw pullers is not affected, Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi held a meeting and directed the officials to talk to them and build a consensus on the operation of golf carts in Mussoorie. A meeting was held today and after discussion all their demands have been accepted by the administration.
