Gov briefed on Bharsar Varsity research by VC

Dehradun, 12 Mar: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) witnessed a presentation today by Prof Parvinder Kaushal, Vice-Chancellor of Vir Chandra Singh Garhwali Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry, Bharsar, on the progress of research being conducted under the “One University-One Research” initiative.

Prof Kaushal informed the Governor that the university is conducting extensive research on “Advanced Technologies for Increased Production of Apples, Walnuts, and Honey to Enhance the Economy and Livelihood of Farmers in Uttarakhand”. The primary objective of this research is to connect farmers with modern agricultural techniques, enhance productivity, and bring new dimensions to horticulture and agriculture in the state. He provided a detailed account of the research progress so far and showcased a coffee table book and a short film based on the university’s achievements, which were appreciated by the Governor.

The Governor emphasised that Uttarakhand’s climate and geographical conditions are favourable for apple, walnut, and honey production. He stated that, if advanced technologies are effectively utilised, farmers’ yield could increase significantly, leading to economic prosperity and new livelihood opportunities. The Governor directed the university to make the practical implementation and in-depth research of this study more effective. He also mentioned that this research could be highly beneficial for the farmers of the state and play a significant role in policymaking.

On this occasion, Additional Secretary to the Governor, Swati S Bhadauria, Prof Dr Anmol Vashisht, and other dignitaries were also present.
