Dehradun, 8 Jul: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd), on Monday, obtained updated information about the ongoing monsoon from the Secretary, Disaster Management, Vinod Kumar Suman at the Raj Bhavan, here.
The Governor inquired about the situation arising due to heavy rains in many districts of the state. He advised that learning from past experiences, one should prepare to deal with possible challenges. Special efforts should be made to minimise loss of life and property during the monsoon.
He said that action should be taken against people spreading fake news on social media, etc. Instructions should be given to the officers to remain alert in places where potential disaster, landslides and waterlogging may take place so that people face minimum problems.
The Secretary, Disaster Management, provided detailed information to the Governor about the updated status of rainfall, water level of rivers and barrages, details of the condition of roads damaged during monsoon, human loss in road accidents, landslides at various places, etc. Giving information about the efforts being made for quick response to the disaster and rescue and relief work, he said that disaster operation centres are operating continuously in every district including the state. Nodal officers of 18 departments are working on disaster management. Warnings are being broadcast to the general public through CAP and WhatsApp. JCBs and automated water level recorders have been installed for monitoring rivers in landslide prone areas. Instructions have been given to establish 113 flood posts and install automatic hydrological sensors in all dam projects. He assured that preparations are complete at every level to deal with any kind of challenge in the monsoon.
