Haridwar, 24 Dec: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) participated as the Chief Guest in the Centenary Conference of the ‘Sanatan Dharma Pratinidhi Sabha’, Punjab, at the Saptarishi Ashram, Sapt Sarovar, here, on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that, in its 100 years of history, the institution has contributed to the propagation of religion, expansion of education, preservation of culture, welfare of society and upliftment of the nation.
The Governor appreciated that, in its centenary year, the Sanatan Dharma Pratinidhi Sabha, in collaboration with Sanatan Dharma Sabhas and educational institutions of seven states, organised many types of religious, cultural, educational, social and national functions throughout the year. It did a commendable job of taking Sanatan Dharma to the masses.
Referring to Pt Madan Mohan Malviya, the Governor said the great objective for which he had established the Sanatan Dharma Pratinidhi Sabha in 1923 was completely successful in achieving its objective. He said that the Sabha has done a great job of opening many Sanatan Dharma education institutions at school and college levels in the neglected and backward areas of the country to expand education on a large scale. It has played a huge role in making cultured and responsible citizens.
The Governor said that, with the help of its internal organisation Shri Sanatan Dharma Shiksha Samiti, the Sabha is promoting moral education in its schools and colleges and making them accountable, truthful and good citizens towards society and the nation. He praised the Sabha for honouring the best principals, professors and teachers of educational institutions, upholding the principle of Acharya Devo Bhava.
The Governor added that it was on the strength of such knowledgeable gurus that the nation is not the way to becoming a World Guru. He said that the 25 years of Amrit Kaal are going to decide the careers of the youth who are in colleges and universities today. He said that developed India will emerge from the potential, enthusiasm and hard work of the youth.
The Governor reiterated that the values of Vedic Sanatani culture should be established in all of society. Also, mutual harmony should be established so everybody together could serve society and the nation to the fullest.
The Governor felicitated the principals, teachers and students who made special contribution in the program with citations and shawls. These included Dr Rajendra Singh, Dr Neeru Garg, Dr Seema Vasudev, Narendra Jeet Kaur Sandhu, Dr Madhu Sharma, Dr Shuchi Sharma, Dr Shyam Lal Gaur and, among the students, Isha, Jasveer, Hunar, Naman and Khushi etc.
On reaching Sapt Rishi Ashram, the Governor was given a grand welcome and felicitated with a bouquet, shawl and insignia.
On this occasion, Dr Desh Bandhu, Dr Bharti Bandhu, Indra Mohan Goswami, Upendra Sharma, Dr Gurdeep Sharma, Mahant Swaroop Bihari Sharan, Vivek Sharma, Dr Rajeev and others officials were also present.
