Gov inaugurates seminar on Arthritis Treatment

Dehradun, 26 Jun: A seminar was organised on treatment and prevention of Arthritis on Sunday at the Raj Bhavan Auditorium, here. Apart from specialist doctors related to Arthritis, doctors from district hospitals and medical colleges of the state participated.

Chief Guest Governor Lt-General Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that the seminar had been organised for the prevention of and awareness on Arthritis. Through such events, avenues would be found to solve the problems. The number of Arthritis patients is increasing in the country and it is being seen in all age groups.

Governor Singh said that the information, remedies and diagnosis related to Arthritis would be expounded on subject experts in the seminar. He said that, after Corona, the need for awareness about health had increased. Homeopathy, Allopathy and Ayurveda had equal importance in the treatment of Arthritis. He revealed that, soon, a camp would also be organised for arthritis patients, at which the experts would be invited to provide treatment.

The Secretary to the Governor, Dr Ranjit Sinha, also expressed his views.

Keynote speaker Prof LJ Ved Chaturvedi, Rheumatologist, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, described how a normal person could identify Arthritis. He said it is a myth that arthritis is a disease of old age. It can happen at any age. Most of the arthritis among the elderly population is due to wear and tear, while in the younger population, it can occur in the spine, neck, back, etc.

Prof Chaturvedi said that lifestyle and diet play a big role in causing arthritis. He gave information about the diagnosis and proper treatment of people suffering from the disease. He said that after identification, treatment of this disease is possible.

Dr Nehal Shah explained the importance of physiotherapy in arthritis. Regular exercise, balanced diet and weight and proper daily activities can get rid of Posture Arthritis. He also attributed the use of mobile phones to arthritis. Dr Varsha Saxena spoke about the importance of Ayurvedic treatment in Arthritis. This included Marma Chikitsa, Panchakarma Chikitsa, Yoga and Ayurvedic medicines.

Padma Shri awardee Dr BKS Sanjay spoke about the surgical treatment of Arthritis.

A book, titled “Care Your Health”, written by Vice Chancellor, HNB Uttarakhand Medical Education University, Professor Hem Chandra was released by the Governor.

Present on the occasion were Vice Chancellor, Ayurvedic University, Prof Sunil Joshi, Finance Controller Dr Tripti Srivastava, Dr Mahaveer Singh, Dr AK Singh, doctors from various hospitals and students of medical colleges.
